“The best thing you can do for Georgie,” the vet said, “...is to give him the happiest, final days of his life.”
For the next 4 months, I watched my Georgie slowly deteriorate, until I eventually couldn’t take the pain of watching him limp over to me to give me sweet, smelly kisses.
I took away his pain by putting him down. I held onto his tiny paw as he gave his final breath...
I never thought I would be the person that would get so close to a dog, but like I said, Georgie was more than just a dog. He was my reminder to keep pushing, to never give up. He was my furry little angel.
“We brought you something,” he said over the phone.
“We?” I asked.
“You’ll see,” he said.
About an hour later, my eldest son and my two other children showed up at my house. It was a big surprise because I haven’t seen all 3 of my children together like this in over a year!
I hugged them and cried and told them how sorry I was, even though I didn’t have anything to be sorry about. Just seeing my children overfilled me with so much love.
They consoled me, and the youngest made a joke (like always) and it made us all laugh and it perked the mood right up.
Then my eldest said all 3 of them pitched in (including the one still in college) and got me something...
“We know how much your little Georgie meant to you,” my eldest said, “so we wanted to buy you something to remember him by.”
