On November 6th, 2019, I wanted to take my own life... and it felt like nothing and no one could stop me.
I suffer from severe depression. And anyone with this illness will tell you, once your thoughts go into the “dark place,” it becomes increasingly more difficult to swing back...
Imagine being infected with a voice in your brain, begging you to disappear because the idea of leaving everything behind seems less painful than enduring another heartbreak or set-back...
I’m not writing this to make you feel sorry for me.
I simply want to share my experience of how I was pulled out of the darkest period in my life, all thanks to an unexpected gift that sparked a life-saving memory...
And if this solution helped me—giving me a brighter purpose that gets me out of bed in the morning— then I’m quite confident it can help you as well.
See, a week before the “dark day,” I lost someone very close to me. He was a handsome, smooth-coat chihuahua named Georgie.
Now, if you’re a dog lover like me, then you know what it’s like to own a dog that becomes more than just a “pet.” That was my Georgie. He was my loyal little man.
He was always by my side, no matter what. He would wake me up with smelly kisses. And he loved me even harder when I had a bad day.
He always seemed to know when something about me was “off”...
...and it was my chihuahua Georgie that saved my life.
You see, my Georgie could “sense” when I was about to slide into a depressive state and would jump into action like any good boy would, with kisses and cuddles, and simply being there for me.
But God apparently wasn’t done testing me...
Because in May of 2019, Georgie was diagnosed with a bone tumor. The cost to remove the tumor was enormous, and the percentage of survival was slim.
“The best thing you can do for Georgie,” the vet said, “...is to give him the happiest, final days of his life.”
For the next 4 months, I watched my Georgie slowly deteriorate, until I eventually couldn’t take the pain of watching him limp over to me to give me sweet, smelly kisses.
I took away his pain by putting him down. I held onto his tiny paw as he gave his final breath...
I never thought I would be the person that would get so close to a dog, but like I said, Georgie was more than just a dog. He was my reminder to keep pushing, to never give up. He was my furry little angel.
“We brought you something,” he said over the phone.
“We?” I asked.
“You’ll see,” he said.
About an hour later, my eldest son and my two other children showed up at my house. It was a big surprise because I haven’t seen all 3 of my children together like this in over a year!
I hugged them and cried and told them how sorry I was, even though I didn’t have anything to be sorry about. Just seeing my children overfilled me with so much love.
They consoled me, and the youngest made a joke (like always) and it made us all laugh and it perked the mood right up.
Then my eldest said all 3 of them pitched in (including the one still in college) and got me something...
“We know how much your little Georgie meant to you,” my eldest said, “so we wanted to buy you something to remember him by.”
My eldest handed me a beautifully-wrapped designer box with the well-known David Von signature splayed across the top.
When I opened the box, my heart skipped at least 3 beats...
It was a stunning 14K gold necklace with an “M” pendant, encrusted with shimmering, perfectly cut diamonds.
“You know we’ll always be here for you,” my middle child said, “but we could never give you the encouragement the way Georgie did.”
In his final days, I watched my Georgie struggle. But what I never saw Georgie do was complain, whine, or give up.
Every time I wanted to give up, Georgie was there to make me laugh, bring a smile to my face, or give me comfort when I needed it most.
Georgie made me want to be brave.
Similar to how I viewed Georgie is how I feel about my new, personalized diamond necklace— it’s not just a piece of “jewelry”... it’s a reminder to keep going, no matter the pain.
I know you won’t believe me when I tell you this next part...
But ever since I received this necklace as a gift, I carry myself differently. I feel proud of who I am. I face trials with a smile. And when I do feel myself “sliding” into a sad state, I simply remember my lil’ boy. My Georgie.
I’m Alice from Minnesota, and this is my David Von Story...
P.S. When I emailed David Von my story, they kindly asked if I wouldn’t mind sharing my story with their audience. (Psst... they helped me write it all out.)
I was more than happy to share my story because after I did some research about the necklace, I got to learn more about David Von and the company’s mission.
What I admire about David Von is how they provide high-quality customized jewelry with a real purpose, and at a fraction of the cost of normal big jewelers.
David Von’s line of clean and simple jewelry pieces are designed with minimalist perfection, allowing the 14K gold and beautifully-cut diamonds to do all of the work.
And no one should go into debt for a precious memory, and that’s why David Von removed the middle-men and high-end advertisers you see on television and radio.
Instead, David Von invests heavily in the quality of their pieces and rely on their loyal fan base to spread the good word.
